Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator who works with NBC News in Washington D.C. She is also a television anchor. She received a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature at the University of Pennsylvania after growing as a child in New York City. Mitchell started her career as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976 she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). Then, she became a Washington general reporter for NBC News two years later. In 1980, she began covering the White House. 1988 became the chief congressional journalist. She was made the chief White House correspondent by NBC News in the year 1992. Mitchell was a host and panelist in the TV news program Meet the Press. She served on an advisory panel during the 1988 debates between George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received in 2005 the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in The John F. Kennedy School of Government. In 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her role in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell covered in the White House first for NBC News between the years 1981-88, which was in the two years that Ronald Reagan served as president. She reported on a variety of noteworthy stories including weapons control, the budget tax reform, and the Iran-contra scandal and was frequently with President Reagan for summits alongside Mikhail Gorbachev and other world leaders.
